
Marija Definis

Marija Definis is a forensic medicine and human rights expert with decades of experience in torture prevention. She has served as a member of both the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture. A professor of forensic medicine, criminalistics, medical ethics, and human rights in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, she also heads the Department of Forensic Medicine at Clinical Hospital Split. Marija is a long-standing medical examiner and court expert, and her academic and field experience bring strong medical, legal, and ethical expertise to APT’s work in detention settings.
